Boyd, Only a few days until we are in the Amazon to share the love of Christ with the Mundarucu. I am looking forward to being back in Brazil after missing a year. I can sense God's hand on this trip.

In Him,
Eddie

Hi Boyd. Had breakfast with your mom and dad this morning. We missed having you there, but know you are working hard in Brazil. We are praying for the upcoming trips in '08 and preparation you have to do. Love in Christ, Jim and Pat Beard

HELLO!!! Just wanted to wish Dale (Watts) and each of you well on this new and exciting adventure. With the help of your traveling companion from up above I have great faith that each of you will accomplish whatever mission you were called to perform and many, many people will reap the benefits from your work, kindness and prayers.
I look forward to hearing all about the daily tasks and accomplishments. So, stay safe, be healthy, work hard, remain positive, keep smiling, and pray plenty.

From the Helm

Thursday – January 31, 2008

Today is the eve of the trip; the 2008 season has begun.

The Beatriz is essentially new. She has been structurally and mechanically overhauled. I trust she will perform well. Whatever the end result, she looks and sounds great right now!

Today is the final day of preparation. All supplies and materials are onboard. Meds and perishables arrive today. There has been so much going on with the engines, kitchen, decks and so forth that today will be the first day that I will be able to sleep aboard – looking forward to it.

Stacy Allen arrived on the 27th and has been at a hotel waiting to board as well. Pastor Pedro arrived last night. The interpreters arrive from Santarem this evening. Things seen to be on schedule.

I’m looking forward to setting sail tomorrow. The plan is to depart our home port of Manaus by 1:00 PM on Friday, after the groups’ arrival at 10:00 AM – we shall see.

My spirit is calm. My expectations are in check. It will all be what it is, as God unfolds the days. The results of our following His path, as He shows it, will determine the results of our time with the Mundurucu. I just ask and follow these days – seems to work better that way.

Dear Lee,
Miss you MUCH! Everyone is doing well. Taylor enjoyed his first Mardi Gras trip. Sarah complained the whole time and still managed to leave with the most "loot". We sat in the Bienville Club raised section. We were eye/hand level with the float and the riders. Laura Leigh was very popular with the riders. (NOT GOOD) They handed her a lot. This was my first parade in 20 years. I was beamed in the head with 2 bags of peanuts and hit in the eye with beads. I don't think I will go back for another 20 years.

Below the kids have dictated personal messages.

"Message from Taylor": "I got a whole round of beads in my hands with nobody helping me catch it right in the middle. I miss you daddy, I love you and I was thinking about you when I was sleeping. At Mardi Gras,I got a leopard and spiderman."

"Message from Sarah": "The clowns at Mardi Gras were freaky. I love you and miss you. I got so much at Mardi Gras my bag ripped all the way to the bottom. Laura could catch a lot because she played softball for 7 years. I picked alot up off the ground."

"Message from Laura":Mardi Gras was pretty fun. Taylor says he loves it. Have fun in Brazil. I love you and I miss you.

We are so proud of you!

Love,
YOUR FAMILY

May God bless all of you and each of you as you go and minister in His name and on our behelf.

To my big sister, Judy Wesson, thank you for the example that you have always set for me. I am so proud of you and so fortunate to have you as my sister. I pray that this will be your best mission trip ever and look forward to hearing all about it.

Just wanted to let all of you know that we continue to pray for you each day. We hope that you will find the people there receptive to the gospel and appreciative of the love of God shown to them through you. I hope all of you will be safe and will stay healthy. You are an inspiration!
