The Challengeby Dr. Richard Walker
The Amazon Valley of Brazil is a virtual maze of rivers, lakes and streams. No one knows for sure, but the estimates vary from 30,000 TO 50,000 miles of navigable waters in this vast river system. The mystery that shadows this intriguing valley includes plants, animals and fish that have never yet been categorized or named by science. There are tribes of precious people who have never been touched by what we call civilization. Yet along her banks and sheltered under her lush canopy of foliage and fruit are untold thousands of olive skinned descendants of a people whose heritage traces back to three continents. Pedro Alvares Cabral claimed the land for Portugal in 1500. These settlers soon brought with them their African servants and salves. These together exploited the native Indian who had been for untold centuries enjoying the bounties of this quiet jungle. Now, except for the isolated tribes of Indians hidden deep in the jungle, there is one people of three roots plying these endless waters in search of the necessities of life. They are virtually alone in their search. The arms of government and society which gather in the occasional city or town are far too short and anemic to meet the colossal needs of these forgotten people.
Their greatest need is a personal knowledge and relationship with the creator of their own lives and the intriguing world around them. God has challenged and commissioned the AMAZON MISSION ORGANIZATION (AMOR) with the responsibility of placing a copy of the Word of God and a personal testimony of His grace in every home on every river in this uncharted wilderness of need. Only the words of Jesus in the Gospel of Mark, Chapter 10, Verse 27, can adequately describe this responsibility:"With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible"
OUR PLAN OF OPERATION HAS THREE FRONTS
FIRST: We must express God's love and our love for these ignored participants in this life's pageant.
GOD SAYS, "Whoever has this world's goods, and beholds his brother in need and closes his heart against him, how does the love of God abide in him?" I John 3:17
We must help them: Birth their Children, Heal their Sickness, Wash their Wounds, Alleviate their Pain, Restore their Sight, Clothe their Naked, Feed their Hungry, Comfort their Bereaved, Explain to them the Gospel, Give them a Song to Sing, Teach them to Sing, and Help them Construct a Temple in which to worship.
REMEMBER
The world will not listen to the words of our lips until they have felt the touch of our hands
This is where you come in. You can help in any of these ministries, you are needed!!! We will invade each river at a strategic point with the love of God, minister to the people, share with them the gospel, baptize their believers and establish a New Testament church. We will do this as many times as there are rivers yet unreached with the love of God in Christ Jesus. These trips are of 12 days itinerary including travel time. At this time the cost for the trip is $1,380 to AMOR for expenses incurred in Brazil plus your travel expenses. Total expenses for a trip are approximately $2,300.00.

SECOND: In cooperation with the Brazilian believers who labor with us and the newly baptized believers of the local village, we will follow the leadership of the Holy Spirit of God in choosing leaders from the local village to shepherd this new flock of God. We will endeavor to supply enough New Testaments for each family where we minister to have at least one copy. These new local pastors will nurture their flock and expand the work of God on a daily basis. These pastors will be what we call "bi-vocational." They will support their families as they did before God called them to pastor his sheep. This is a magnanimous task.
We will endeavor to provide each river with an itinerant pastor. This pastor will encourage the local pastors as well as establish new works where the gospel is not preached. Each itinerant pastor will be provided a boat adequate for plying the waters to share the Gospel house to house until all have heard and are sharing the Good News with others. Each boat will cost $20,000.00, and each New Testament will cost $.75 . Each itinerant pastor receives $350.00 per month for his personal support and travel expenses of his ministry.

THIRD: We will train these new pastors in the Word of God for their colossal task. To accomplish this we have established the "RIVER BANK BIBLE INSTITUTE" . We gather the pastors who are capable to teach TWICE each year for training in the Scriptures. We will travel on our boat to several villages during this two-week period. The pastors will study God's Word during the day. Late each afternoon, they will visit and witness in the village where we are docked. Each night, they will conduct a worship service in the village. At least two and sometimes three of the pastors will preach each night. Thus they will not only be taught the Word of God, but will also have the opportunity to share this Word with those who have as yet not heard these words of grace and power. They will plan the worship services, lead the singing and conduct the service as they are being taught the 'HOW TO' of leadership in the church.
These pastors whom we teach are divided into four groups. They then gather the pastors of their geographical area TWICE each year and teach them as they have been taught. Through this method, these pastors have a part in the training of their co-workers. AMOR furnishes all study materials and food for these institutes. Also, when necessary, we help with their travel expenses to attend the Institute.
The cost for each session of the RBBI is approximately $200.00 per pastor. With 70 pastors involved twice each year, this entails a yearly expense of $28,000.00. We need 140 people to sponsor one pastor for one Institute each year.

How many rivers are there? Only God knows! How long will it take us to complete the task? That depends upon God's leadership in your life. Will you PRAY for us and with us in this task? Will you GO with us and personally minister for our Lord? Will you GIVE to the operational expenses of AMOR? Will you give to SUPPORT the RIVER BANK BIBLE INSTITUTE?
There is much you can do! We pray that God will lead you to become a regular and vital part of this challenge and commission from God.
